Vernon D. Lill, 89, of Decatur passed away Thursday January 20, 2011 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Graveside service to celebrate Vernon's life will be 2:00 PM Monday January 24, 2011 at Illini Cemetery in Warrensburg with Pastor Doug Lowery officiating. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to the Salvation Army in memory of Vernon.
Vernon was born on March 19, 1921 in Niantic, the son of William and Anna Dingman Lill. He married Mae Rands on October 22, 1941. Vernon was retired from the Decatur School District #61. He and his wife Mae built the home they are living in from the ground up, their children remember living in the finished basement until they completed the upper level. Vernon was a great inventor of tools and a great carpenter, if someone needed a certain tool, Vernon could make it. Vernon and Mae liked to travel together, when the children were growing up Vernon was active in Boy Scouts as a leader and Scout Master. Vernon was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Vernon is survived by his wife Mae; children: Jeanette Weekley and husband Darrell of Decatur, Donald Lill of Decatur and Carolyn Siefman and husband Kent of Centennial, CO.; grandchildren: Danny Lill and wife Heather, Angela Lacox, Michael Siefman, Debra Kater and husband Jaimie, Kim Weekley, Jim Weekley and wife Jennifer; there are nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren that also survive.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
